Apple All The Way

So impressed with the iPhone and needing a laptop, I went the extra step and got a MacBook.

It’s not just the beautiful way it operates (compared to a Windows PC) but the build, the casing being machined from a single piece of aluminium. Quality !

I know it’s used in their advertising but it all adds to the “user experience”. Even the keyboard that I’m using now is the best keyboard I’ve ever used.

Now I’m completely portable – writing this in the car park of Le Manoir Aux Quattre Saisons in Oxford, as I am.

I must go now as the diners are due out shortly. . .

Gadgets Are Go !

Doing what I do I get to carry all sorts of people. Having a BlackBerry and an iPhone (and if I had the money I’d have an iPad) I’m quite into my gadgets.
Today I carried a celebrity that has got to rank as one of the nicest in “real life” there is – Jason Bradbury, from The Gadget Show fame.
Why do I say this? – Because he was actually interested in what I was talking about.
Restored my faith in people. Well for today anyway. . .

Knackered

The last couple of days I’ve been tired. Not just “ooh I need an early night” but absolutely wasted tired. Weeks of working weird hours without any proper time off.
Yesterday I slept and slept and slept some more. Come ‘bed time’ I slept as normal as well.
Anyway, guess what – it’s bedtime…

Here I am, always loved driving and now so desperate for time off, can’t stand it.

Be careful what you wish for. . .

They say: “Be careful what you wish for…”. Well after the coldest winter on record people, me included, having been wishing for good weather.
The volcano that is erupting in Iceland has grounded aircraft across Britain because of the high pressure and therefore settled, nice weather. Sure enough the weather report for next week is for South West winds and more unsettled times; thus causing the plume of ash to drift in a different direction.
All I know is, after a tough winter bookings-wise, I’m losing money again due to no aircraft flying.
Better not “wish” for more money !!!

“Computer Says No”

I understand things being out of stock but why didn’t the O2 web site tell me? Order confirmation was given on screen but no email confirmation, as is normal with items ordered online. I rang and got the usual press 1, 2 etc the operative told me “oh yes it should be delivered tomorrow morning”. Patiently I waited, confident my extra £9.99 delivery before 10am would secure an early delivery. No delivery.
The next phone call was to a dedicated iPhone customer service number (read: more than one brain cell). The very helpful Scottish chap, Neil, looked and found the no stock situation. He then uttered those immortal words “I’ll ring you back later”. My experience in business is that people NEVER ring you back. He duly rang me back as promised so I kept my cool and didn’t demand £9.99 refunds. “It’s out for delivery tomorrow” (Good Friday, Bank Holiday). He was very polite and British so I kept keeping my cool and suggested that DHL don’t deliver on Bank Holidays – “could you hold, I’ll just check with them”. When he returned all I heard was “blah blah blah blah blah”.

Delivery is now Tuesday.

Why are simple systems like – order > in stock/no stock > supply/back order > let the customer know either way, buggered up?

One last comment – I consider myself not an expert but quite competent at operating websites. In ten years or so of using O2′s I have always ended up going round in circles.

As with most things in life the best adage is: Keep It Simple
